Current Form and Key Players

Kurban Berdyev the long standing coach at Rubin Kazan has worked miracles for a team that has spent most of its life in virtual obscurity. Having taken up the reins in 2001, he has guided them to the second division title and promotion to the Premier League. He kept his team competitive at their new found level in the early years of Russian Premier League football, but he has now guided them to titles in a row and qualification for the Champions League.

They are captained by Roman Sharonov, who is a very efficient Central defender, who has seven caps for his country. Ecuadorian international, Christian Noboa, is one of the stars of the team. A midfielder with great vision, Noboa has become a big favourite with the Rubin Kazan fans and has the ability to cause most teams trouble. Obafemi Martins is a familiar name for British football followers, particularly fans of Newcastle United, for whom he played three seasons for, scoring 28 times in 88 games. He has signed this season for the club after a brief but productive spell with FC Wolfsburg.

Martins is one of a number of strikers who have signed for the club this season, one of the others is Turkish international, Fatih Tekke, who has arrived from Zenit St Petersberg, after scoring 24 times for them in just 73 matches.

  • Roman Sharonov – Central Defender
  • Christian Noboa - Midfield
  • Obafemi Martins - Striker
  • Fatih Tekke - Striker
