Three times winners of the Champions League in 98', 00' and 02' Real Madrid have spent a fortune in the summer to ensemble a squad capable of winning the competition. Real Madrid remain the most successful team in Champions League/European Cup history but haven't won the competition now since 2002. What makes it worst for the supporters, they have not even come close in that period. Florentino Perez is now trying to build a 'Galactico' capable of repeating the three Champions League the team he built won at the turn of the century.
Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League at the last sixteen stage once again, as French club Lyon beat them 2-1 on aggregate.

Real Madrid qualified for this season's Champions League by finishing second in La Liga last year. They'll be looking to do a whole lot better than last season where they got dumped out of the competition in the first knockout stage 5-0 on aggregate by Liverpool. What made it worst was that their big rivals Barcelona won both La Liga and the Champions League.
New arrivals Kaka, Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are definitely the ones to look out for and Madrid certainly won't be too short of goals. Xabi Alonso has been signed to help give them more of a solid look but we still think they'll be too vulnerable at the back if they get to the latter stages of the competition.
