Montpellier

Montpellier Champions League Betting

French side Montpellier are one of the surprise names in the hat for the Champions League this season after they upset the odds in the French Ligue 1 last season. They caused a shock in France by winning their first ever Ligue 1 title from big-spending PSG and they will have to upset the odds again if they are to make an impact in Europe. Their only achievement of any note in Europe prior to this season was to win the 1999 Intertoto Cup and they face a big task to make an impression at Europe's top table.

Current Form and Key Players

As with any team that defies the odds to be successful in football, it is always a struggle for a team to keep their best players from the clutches of 'bigger cubs who can offer significant wages and sustained success. Montpellier have found that to their cost after winning the French Ligue 1 as they lost top scorer Olivier Giroud to Arsenal during pre-season.

The loss of Giroud leaves a significant burden on their remaining forwards, with John Utaka and new signings Antony Mounier and Gaetan Charbonnier having to produce the goods early. Souleymane Camara popped up with some useful goals last season and he will have to continue the form that saw him score 9 in 19 appearances.
