A solitary Wayne Rooney first half strike for Manchester United seperates these two English sides at the halfway point of their Champions League quarter-final. Rooney scored from a Ryan Giggs cross in the first half at Stamford Bridge to put his side in control of the tie ahead of next week's second leg at Old Trafford. Chelsea hit the post in the first half and were unlucky to be denied an injury time penalty when Jose Ramires was seemingly brought down by Patrice Evra.
The Champions League quarter-final draw has thrown up an all-English quarter-final between Manchester United and Chelsea. These two teams met in the 2008 Champions League final where Man Utd came out on top on penalties. Both teams are also battling it out to win the Premier League title, with Sir Alex Ferguson's United team in the box seat.
Man Utd are bidding for a third Champions League victory and fourth European Cup. After winning a Group C consisting of Rangers, Valencia and Bursaspor comfortably, Man Utd then went on to beat French champions Marseille 2-1 on aggregate in the last sixteen.
Chelsea have bounced back from a domestic mid season blip to be challenging for the Premier League title again. They've made lighter work of the Champions League however winning their Group F in good style, the group including Marseille, Spartak Moscow and MSK Zilina. A 2-0 aggregate win over FC Copenhagen in the last sixteen sets up this mouthwatering quarter-final.
