Lyon got a wake up call domestically last season as they failed to win the French Ligue 1 title for the first time since 2001 and as a result they have an abundance of experience in the Champions League. Having successfully navigated themselves out of a tricky looking Group E they have reached the last sixteen for the sixth time since 2004. They will be looking to get past the quarter-finals however, a feat they have yet not managed.
Lyon beat Real Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in the last sixteen of the Champions League to secure a place in the last eight. The French team are now a general 14/1 shot to win the competition.

Lyon's current form is good having qualified from Group E and the money spent in the close season seems to be paying off. Forward Karim Benzema left big shoes to fill when he left for Real Madrid in the summer but it's so far, so good for manager Claude Puel who spent heavily pre-season to make sure his squad was up to the rigours of European football.
