CSKA Moscow are appearing in only their fifth Champions League proper after winning the Russian Premier League last season. CSKA have struggled to make it past the group stages in the past but they did reach the quarter finals in 2009. The Russian club do have some European pedigree however winning the 2005 Uefa Cup.

CSKA Moscow have won the Russian Premier League on eleven occassions most recently last season. The main driving force behind CSKA are Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa and Russian Alan Dzagoev whilst Igor Akinfeev leads the team and national team as Goalkeeper.
