Barcelona became the latest team to fail to record historic back to back Champions League wins, after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Jose Mourinho's Inter side in their Champions League semi-final. Barcelona required a 2-0 win or to win by three clear goals if they wanted to progress to the final in Madrid but they never really looked like breaking the deadlock until the 84th minute when makeshift centre forward Gerard Pique gave the home side a 1-0 lead. A disallowed Bojan goal shortly after was the closest the Spaniards came to winning the tie, which sees Inter get to their first final since 1965.
Earlier in the match, it was clear to see that Inter were happy to surrender possesion and defend their first leg lead. But for a fine Julio Cesar save from Lionel Messi the first half ended goalless. Inter midlfielder Thiago Motta was harshly sent off for a challenge on Sergio Busquets after only half an hour, but Inter defended with aplomb and deserved their victory.
Inter will now face Bayern Munich in the final with the bookmakers already installing Jose Mourinho's Inter team as odds on favourites to win the Champions League in Madrid on 22nd May.

As previously mentioned, Barcelona got the upper hand in the meetings between these two sides earlier in the competition. Whilst Barcelona look for back to back Champions League final appearances, Inter are bidding to reach their first final since 1972. The previous meeting at the San Siro between these two sides before this season was back in the group stages of the 2002/03 Champions League. Barcelona were 3-0 winners in the Nou Camp whilst the game in Italy was once again a goalless draw.
